Our History

At Mersey Vets, we believe that your pets deserve the very best care. As an independent veterinary practice, we are dedicated to personalized, compassionate, and comprehensive medical services for your beloved companions whether at home or in practice.

Historically, Barn lodge Kirkby was established in 2012 as a partnership between Austin Kirwan and Allison Dickinson. Austin and Allison had been close friends and colleagues for many years.

We are now embarking on a new chapter of veterinary care in Kirkby and with it comes a new business partner and branding to reflect our future. With the new partnership we will remain an independent practice. Natalie and Allison are excited to share their veterinary home with you.

Natalie started her veterinary career at the practice twenty years ago and has remained in touch ever since. Having rescued multiple pets of her own, her passion has always been caring for animals who are nervous, have behavioral issues, or complex medical issues. Setting up a mobile veterinary service approximately ten years ago seemed like a natural progression. She wanted to be able to use her knowledge and empathy to help the animals and the pet owners who needed it most, but who found it difficult or stressful to take their animals into a practice setting. Over the years, she has formed a close bond with various rescues and has a wide base of loyal and lovely clients who will be joining us at Mersey Vets.

Allison has many years veterinary nursing experience and was the first nurse to train at the Barn Lodge Ormskirk practice. She has seen many changes since starting her career at what was then small/large and equine veterinary practice. a mixed animal. She is a Registered Veterinary Nurse and was Head Nurse at Barn Lodge Ormskirk. She has helped train numerous veterinary nurses and has enjoyed working as a part of a close veterinary team supporting the business and her colleagues.  She has enjoyed establishing the Kirkby practice and is looking forward to the new venture of Mersey Vets.

Together, Allison and Natalie are dedicated, providing honest and professional care for the animals in the community of Kirkby and the surrounding areas. The team at Mersey Vets are very excited to welcome all of your beloved pets into our family, and we all are looking forward to our future together.
